Start with your first hand

A five-minute lesson where you tap the tiles instead of reading rules. You'll meet the suits, dragons, and jokers, then play a real hand and call Mahjong.

The Game Table in the middle of a game: three computer players across the top, a row of thrown tiles, and your rack of 14 tiles with one chosen to throw

The Game Table

Play a whole game, start to finish

Sit down with three computer players and play it all: the Charleston, calls, jokers, blanks, and scoring. You make every decision, and the coach is there whenever you want a second opinion before you throw.

Choose how strong the other players are, and switch to full screen when you want the tiles big.

Hand of the Day

One deal that everyone plays. Draw and throw until you call mahjong, then compare notes with your table.

Why a lab?

A place to try things, miss, and try again.

Nobody learns Mahjong by reading about it. You learn by holding a rack of tiles, making a choice, and finding out what happened. Mahj Lab is built for exactly that: short puzzles when you have five minutes, full games when you have an evening, and a coach who only speaks up when you ask.

It grew out of teaching Mahjong, where the same questions came up at every table. Which hand do I go for? What do I pass? Is this tile safe to throw? The lab is where you can ask those questions as many times as you like.

Every room uses the current card and tracks how you are doing, so you can see the parts of the card that need work and spend your practice where it counts.
